Joss has said Season 6 is about "growing up" . . .
and Marti showed us the "perfect" fantasy

Like the subway breeze that blew up Marilyn's skirt
another burst of mystical sewer gas blows up
the ever-open nostrils of forensicpoetry . . .

Against his will, yet another Shakespearean sonnet
drips from his fingers ...

Riley & Sam's Grown-up-i-tude

{BVS_002_01.01} WHEN SAM & RILEY rose into the air,

{BVS_002_01.02} they left behind an image to recall

{BVS_002_01.03} of demon-fighting grown-ups with true flair.

{BVS_002_01.04} (No "Buffy babytalk." And they're both tall.)

{BVS_002_01.05} In Sam we saw a woman with no flaws.

{BVS_002_01.06} If she missteps, she catches it with grace.

{BVS_002_01.07} (Hey, even Willow had to fake cat claws

{BVS_002_01.08} to say she "hated her" for Buffy's "face.")

{BVS_002_01.09} In happy fantasy she'd be my wife.

{BVS_002_01.10} Resourceful, with no misery in sight.

{BVS_002_01.11} Sam deals with Buffy-duty -- risks her life

{BVS_002_01.12} to save the lives of others. While a night . . .

{BVS_002_01.13} . . . of endless sorrow seems our Buffy's path;

{BVS_002_01.14} And our whole Scooby gang's. Redo the math!

Oh gosh! What had he done?!? The SMG fanclub will
rip out his fingernails... It was the gas. The sewer gas
made him say it. But would they ever believe him?

(JUST SOME NOTES)

RETURN (TO BUFFY-VERSE SERIES SONNET INDEX)

MY POINT? [smile] Season 6 (we heard) was supposedly
about "growing up" (adulthood). Bullshit. [serious smile]
Season six was about whining and misery and depriving
the audience of fun.

I will not assume I know what the writers thought they
were doing by illustrating for us the "fantasy" of
two people being gloriously "neat" together in their
deadly duty ... BUT Buffy's character flaws are not
nearly interesting enough to make me want to suffer with
her and the gang through Season 6. Yep, give me Sam. [smile]
