Sonnets for 4/1 TEA TIME Rewatching BtVS episode #2: "The Harvest" Posted by: forensicpoetry - Apr 01, 2002, 5:34 PM
rhetorical verse in Shakespearean sonnet form PART 1: FROM DETAIL TO BIG PICTURE }
{BVS_021_01.02}
when Luke reached down to kill, BUT THEN APPEARED
{BVS_021_01.03}
right there, right by her heart -- THEN POOF, IT'S GONE
{BVS_021_01.04}
right after Luke's right hand's flesh had been seared.
{BVS_021_01.06}
With hindsight from six seasons' future fact,
{BVS_021_01.07}
I find my eyes too jaded to pursue
{BVS_021_01.08}
loose threads of beauty -- 'til new seams are tacked.
{BVS_021_01.10}
were clearly visible right from the start.
{BVS_021_01.11}
And if your heart enjoyed the fantasy,
{BVS_021_01.12}
"reality" now's pulled those seams apart.
{BVS_021_01.14}
to what it might have been. I've changed my mind.
{BVS_022_02.01}
THE CHALLENGE I'D SET FORTH was to explore
{BVS_022_02.02}
the Buffy tapestry -- its darks and lights.
{BVS_022_02.03}
Find patterns to remember and adore.
{BVS_022_02.04}
AND THEREBY -- should we ever set our sights . . .
{BVS_022_02.06}
well chalked in mem'ry by Joss Whedon's hand.
{BVS_022_02.07}
Have learned the secrets of his best designs.
{BVS_022_02.08}
BUT NOW I want to change what I had planned.
{BVS_022_02.10}
FIRST I'd persuade Ms. Holmes to take "the" role.
{BVS_022_02.11}
THEN cast "the cooler Xander" (his real twin).
{BVS_022_02.12}
AND I would play the vampire with a soul.{grin}
{BVS_022_02.14}
(Hey, I can dream.) New Angel comes from France! ///
{PART 2: FROM BIG PICTURE TO. . . CHAOS?}
{BVS_023_03.02}
of all my sonnet verses for today.
{BVS_023_03.03}
I watched it through, last night, but then this scheme
{BVS_023_03.04}
came to my mind . . . and hence this disarray:
{BVS_023_03.06}
I found myself distracted by each flaw.
{BVS_023_03.07}
A lust "to change it all" -- go diff'rent ways
{BVS_023_03.08}
than Joss had gone (though that's "against the law"{g}).
{BVS_023_03.10}
I try to love the Master's big bad style.
{BVS_023_03.11}
Though my blaspheming bottom's getting sore,
{BVS_023_03.12}
I look, and look, and look . . . BUT all the while . . .
{BVS_023_03.14}
in my Angelic face. . . Saliva foams.{ewg}
{BVS_024_04.01}
AS YOU CAN SEE this verse has "lost its soul." {smile}
{BVS_024_04.02}
"The Harvest" matters not, to me. No more.
{BVS_024_04.03}
This sonnet must now seek some higher goal.
{BVS_024_04.04}
to justify our time . . . Kick down a door . . .
{BVS_024_04.06}
Can our imaginations be set free
{BVS_024_04.07}
by Katie-lust? Can Holmes-love take us high'r?
{BVS_024_04.08}
Or are we playing pure insanity?
{BVS_024_04.10}
But wait! That means the path Joss took was right.
{BVS_024_04.11}
Which means that all I've written needs new math.
{BVS_024_04.12}
And maybe I'm just higher than a kite.{g}
{BVS_024_04.14}
You can't "go Holmes" again. But, God, I'd try.{ewg}
