THE PORTAL [AND] THE PACK

{BVS_030_01.01} IN SHAKESPEARE'S SONNET FORM, WE SET OUR SCENE:

{BVS_030_01.02} UPON PACIFIC SAND, NEAR SUNNYDALE

{BVS_030_01.03} AT STROKE OF TEA TIME HOUR, NOW ROUTINE,

{BVS_030_01.04} THERE SUDDENLY APPEARS, LIKE AHAB'S WHALE, . . .

{BVS_030_01.05} . . . AN ALL-GLASS STRUCTURE, |

WITH ONE SHIMM'RING WALL:

{BVS_030_01.06} A TRANS'ENT PORTAL with its mysteries.

{BVS_030_01.07} INSIDE, THE ORACLE who "makes the call"

{BVS_030_01.08} on "who is worthy." Verse is all he sees.

{BVS_030_01.09} WHAT SHALL YOU GAIN, |

IF THROUGH THIS PORTAL PASS?

{BVS_030_01.10} Beyond a mastery of Shakespeare's form,

{BVS_030_01.11} who knows what lies beyond your looking glass --

{BVS_030_01.12} what acts of beauty, then, will you perform.

{BVS_030_01.13} For some parts of this path you walk haiku.

{BVS_030_01.14} Some stretches take blank verse. |

{BVS_031_01.01} TODAY, OUR BUFFY EPISODE IS SIX:

{BVS_031_01.02} "The Pack," where one rude clique "puts on the dog."

{BVS_031_01.03} Their predatory human natures mix

{BVS_031_01.04} with evil animal. The school's pet hog . . .

{BVS_031_01.05} . . . is appetizer for their meal's main course:

{BVS_031_01.06} the Principal. Poor Flutie -- "doggy" dung.

{BVS_031_01.07} Thank goodness, Xander missed that scene's remorse,

{BVS_031_01.08} but by that time he's found himself among . . .

{BVS_031_01.09} . . . the pack -- though there are "virtues" to that place.

{BVS_031_01.10} His confidence and sex appeal are strong --

{BVS_031_01.11} when normally, he flutters to save face.

{BVS_031_01.12} We can see why a pack may not seem wrong.

{BVS_031_01.13} But Flutie and the pig . . . they know the score.

{BVS_031_01.14} Attacking "others" . . . That's what packs are for.
