Rhetorical verse for Tea Time in L.A. #28 - (Talking about Buffy as Shakespeare would have. [g]) Posted by: forensicpoetry - Apr 21, 2002, 6:27 PM
A SONNETIZED SUNDAY SUNNYDALE SERMON
rhetorical verse in Shakespearean sonnet form }
{BVS_070_01.02}
a sentient mummy sealed by sacred curse
{BVS_070_01.03}
through human history. Could she forgive
{BVS_070_01.04}
the sacrifice her people did coerce . . .
{BVS_070_01.06}
by force of their traditions' cruelty?
{BVS_070_01.07}
Five hundred years -- a coffin limousine
{BVS_070_01.08}
bore here in solitude. Dead eyes that see . . .
{BVS_070_01.10}
that no one ought to bear . . . But they chose her.
{BVS_070_01.11}
Of course her people had to educate
{BVS_070_01.12}
its blessed children so they would concur . . .
{BVS_070_01.14}
BUT THINK, DEAR CHILD, before you heed that call.
{BVS_071_02.01}
SOMETIMES WHAT NATIONS GLORIFY is dumb.
{BVS_071_02.02}
And sometimes evil slips by in that form.
{BVS_071_02.03}
There may be good cause for your martyrdom,
{BVS_071_02.04}
BUT you must judge yourself. Not just conform . . .
{BVS_071_02.06}
You owe your nation more than body parts.
{BVS_071_02.07}
A citizen is someone you can trust
{BVS_071_02.08}
to use their brain and soul -- yes, all their smarts . . .
{BVS_071_02.10}
for sacrifice makes sense . . . or is insane.
{BVS_071_02.11}
IF NOT, a nation ceases to be blessed
{BVS_071_02.12}
and "we its people" will go down the drain.
{BVS_071_02.14}
or bring us down by Satan's hidden hand?
{BVS_072_03.01}
The sound of "SATAN" fit's a verse line well.
{BVS_072_03.02}
Though I have no desire to preach that name
{BVS_072_03.03}
for superhuman evil straight from hell,
{BVS_072_03.04}
celebrity has weight, and "he" has fame.
{BVS_072_03.06}
for how humanity goes off the track
{BVS_072_03.07}
of grace and beauty, runs off of the road, . . .
{BVS_072_03.08}
AND FOR A TIME BECOMES A MANIAC . . .
{BVS_072_03.10}
it reaches common knowledge and destroys
{BVS_072_03.11}
a generation with a poison pill
{BVS_072_03.12}
of insane sacrifice and deadly toys.
{BVS_072_03.14}
BUT always THINK, before you don that crown.
{BVS_073_04.01}
OF COURSE, IT IS THE WORLD in its "wild" state
{BVS_073_04.02}
that brings these lines of verse across this screen.
{BVS_073_04.03}
A world that's run amok with murd'rous hate.
{BVS_073_04.04}
And so I must take care with what I mean.
{BVS_073_04.06}
deserves no hearing. And since here I sit
{BVS_073_04.07}
and type these words in U.S.A. confess
{BVS_073_04.08}
to all the world . . . our leaders don't know sh*t . . .
{BVS_073_04.10}
WHERE'S CHRIST -- who said to love your enemy
{BVS_073_04.11}
and turn the other cheek -- when WAR's unfurled?
{BVS_073_04.12}
It's hard to lead . . . but stop the blasphemy.
{BVS_073_04.14}
But ev'ry faith has truths we must defend.
