IN THE BEGINNING
(RE BtVS #1: "Welcome To the
Hellmouth")
[CONTINUED FROM PART
1]
(3) BUT THOSE ARE "LONG SHOT"
COMMENTS, let's zoom in
on how the story
grows in that first show.
Let's versify the
TEASER scenes, wherein
the tone is
set for where we are to go.
WE OPEN ON
A HIGH SCHOOL -- LATE AT NIGHT.
WE TRACK
past Giles' lair to a science lab. . . .
WE
"CRAWL" across the floor to our FIRST
FRIGHT:
A "THING" outside the window makes
a stab . . .
. . . and breaks the
glass. BUT it's just GIRL and BOY.
Two
teens. The boy says come, let's go
inside.
The boy is confident. Is this some
ploy?
For her -- it seems -- this is a
spooky ride.
She hears a noise. She's
scared -- or so is seemed.
He says they're
all alone . . . THEN VAMP TEETH
GLEAMED.
(4) THE BIG SURPRISE, of
course, was it's THE GIRL
who was the
vampire. He who was the prey.
And with this
scene, Joss did his flag unfurl.
With this,
the Buffyverse went on display.
To tell
the episode in all details
would take more
verses than I mean to write.
The characters
we meet as they raise sails
on Whedon's
sea. For us, love at first
sight.
Relationships bein. And vampire
dust
begins to clog the sew'rs of
Sunnydale.
Trajectories of story gain their
thrust
and set our orbit. Joss has made the
sale.
I now shut up to let more
voices fly
about ep number one. Please
testify.
