CONTEXT OF BtVS EPISODE #9 - "THE PUPPET
SHOW" Posted by: forensicpopouri - Apr 13, 2002, 7:56
AM
THE BUFFYVERSE & THE
UNIVERSAL
1. A SUNNYDALE SERMON
OVERLOOKED (IN "THE PUPPET SHOW") The Irony of
Snyder's Talent Show & The Scoobies Oedipal
Stupidity
A MINOR TALE not in the
major arc
of Buffy history -- except one
point.
A "Nazi" principal (who once played
"Quark")
is introduced into Joss Whedon's
joint.
Rejecting "understanding"
out of hand,
he said that
"discipline is "what kids need."
The
irony -- that Snyder would
demand
participation in what best
would breed . . .
. . . the thing he's
just dismissed . . . with his main goal.
A
TALENT SHOW -- where art's hard
discipline
is matched with
understanding your own soul.
He
thinks they're enemies. But they're blood
kin.
That "Oedipus" with Scoobies
was a scream.
But sad: These heroes chose
"their least" to team.
