VISIBLE CRUELTY
(8-sonnet sequence) PART 2
(3) WHICH
BRINGS US TO OUR BUFFY
EPISODE:
Already shown in BOLD-CAPS
prev'ously,
the message written by the girl
-- "in code,"
thought Willow -- but
quite plain for you and me.
We in the
audience have seen her past.
The girl who
only sought to bring her soul
into
communion found herself out-caste
where
"mean-girls" hold the damned remote-control . .
.
. . . of school-wide ratings of who's
in and out.
The writers stacked her deck to
make it worse.
Not even teachers saw her
high hand shout,
"oh please just call on
me." It was her curse . . .
. . .
to end up in a ep. with no bad vamp:
Well,
someone must play loser to our
champ.
(4) AND SO ANOTHER "CRAZY
LOSER" TALE'S
transmitted to a world that
"knows it cold."
The ones who suffer, each
sad one who fails
to find their place in
high school, so we're told . . .
. . .
is just one step from slaughter and
mayhem.
You mix that angst with
Hellmouth, and watch out!
But
everywhere, we'll keep an eye on them.
AND
NOW THE TWIST, some F.B. "Eyes" with clout . .
.
. . . jumped in the ring when
Buffy'd won the match,
and dragged
the challenger to where she'd LEARN
to be a
useful citizen. The catch?
"The
powers that be" know schools will always turn . .
.
. . . a few kids into killers we
can't see.
They hate. They kill.
