SONNETS
#82-85 for today's TEA TIME in L.A. (#31) - TOPIC: BtVS#19 Lie
To Me
 |
Rhetorical verse for Tea Time in
L.A. #31- (Talking about Buffy as Shakespeare
would have. <g>) Posted by: forensicpopouri - Apr 25, 2002, 3:54

NOTE: If you watch "Lie To
Me" Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode
#19 (Season 2 Episode 7) before reading this
sonnet sequence, it will make a heck of a lot more
sense. <smile>
BIGGER NOTE: The
insane idea of putting Buffy
thoughts in Shakespearean sonnet form .
. . is based on the even more insane idea that
you might want to give it a try
yourself.
For a "sonnetized"
explanation of why this is not
insane <g> . . . you might read my
previous Bronze threads WHY I POST IN
SHAKESPEAREAN SONNETS: PART
1: http://www.buffy.com/bronze_posts.jsp?tid=48156 PART
2: http://www.buffy.com/bronze_posts.jsp?tid=48152
THEN
if that challenge seems like an interesting one to
you, look for TEA TIME in L.A. at
7:00 PM BRONZE TIME daily . . . which is
truly strange. <g> But it
just might save the world. <ewg> In any
case, you can brag about being able to write
better than fill-in-the-blank.

"CONSPIRACY," SAID BUFFY when she
learned
that Angel, Wil, and Xander
had aligned
behind her back, because they were
concerned
by what her old friend "Ford" might
have in mind.
A PASSING WORD to
frame her attitude
towards all the lies
that frame her story line --
Where lies
and good intention may collude
while
other lies may hide a diff'rent
sign.
NOW EV'RYTHING IS GRAYER
THAN BEFORE.
THOUGH sweet simplicity would
be so nice --
to love or hate on sight and
not know more
than friend or foe. BUT NOW
she'll need advice.
As military judgements
now require
a lawyer to O.K. when you can
fire.

| (2) THAT
seems a bridge too far to join in verse.
The
Slayer still decides who she will kill
. . .
BUT how she feels about it,
she'll converse
with Giles or
Willow . . . "Come on, Buffy, spill . .
.
. . . your thoughts about your quandries
when it's done --
when dust has settled or
blood's on the ground . . .
the deathly peace
that follows when you've won
your match again . .
. before another round.
THE FAIRYTALE OF
CLARITY appeals
to all who have no choice but
carry on.
So yes, Giles, "lie to me"
how honor feels.
My clarity account is overdrawn.
. . .
Of course, I won't believe you. I'm
too smart.
Well, that's my head, it's
diff'rent with my
heart.

| BUT STEPPING BACK
FROM INSIDE Buffy''s soul
to gaze across
this episode's terrain
(ignoring, now, the
villain's bright lit goal)
and noting on the
dark repeating plain . . .
. . . the
tumbleweed of jealousy rolls by,
and by
again, across the diff'rent trails
of characters
who don't like what they see.
BUT their
interpretation often fails . . .
. . .
and so misunderstanding amplifies
the
monster of their pain from what transpired.
For
surely, there would be far fewer sighs
if
better readings of the text had sired . .
.
. . . their version of
reality that hurts.
(And Angel made
the point that truth needs
skirts.)

A T.V.
DRAMA does not make a case.
It's not a sermon
aiming at a sin.
YET, still, I climb the mountain
up one face
and try to seek one solitary spin . .
.
. . . amidst this formal verse that pins
the rope,
and leads me in directions by shear
chance.
By this time in four sonnets I lose
hope
of planting some bright flag on mounts near
France . . . <g>
. .
. and so I play around with what is left.
This
habit is not justified at all.
And some might
even say that it is theft
that I would have the
stupifying gall . . .
. . . to claim these
lines count toward one fifty four.
To hell
with gall. I add this to my score.

If there was a point I would have made
it by now. The same goes for Joss.
