TEA TIME SONNETS #139-142 of 154
Rhetorical verse in Shakespearean sonnet form

UNPOETIC HEROES ARE ALL WET

(1) "IT'S BIG AND WET," says Buffy of the sea.

A VILLAIN MAKES AN OCEAN METAPHOR:

eternal mother, birth and cruelty.

POOR BUFFY does not know what words are for.

"NO SINGING," Buffy said in "Killed by Death."

In Season Six she'll say: DON'T GIVE ME RHYME,

or rather she implies Xan save his breath

(his Klingon love poem joke his latest crime).

POOR BUFFY. When "The Musical" required

her to sing rhyming verses . . . must have cried.

We know that S.M.G. at first perspired.

She'd never do it right .. . BUT THEN she tried.

AND TO HER GREAT SURPRISE she did it well.

Until you try, you know, you just can't tell. . . .

(2) . . . if whether you've a gift you didn't know

was waiting to reveal itself to you.

Too bad the odds of finding gifts are low

within the system where we're formed and grow.

The narrow concept of what should be learned

within the yeasrs our "education" spans

is one I'll work to see is overturned.

MAKE WAR on all the academic clans . . .

. . . who in their private pigeon holes divide

the whole of life into their specialty.

IT'S TIME Medieval concepts take a ride

into THE NOW. Network Society . . .

. . . means college is not crucial anymore.

A Harvard grad's read books she should ignore.

(3) An Ivy grad's articulate . . . but tame.

They've read what teachers told them to too well.

I HEAR A SCREAM, "Good Lord! That is the game

we're trying hard to play. Hey, go to hell!"

AND, BLOODY HELL, where's Buffy in this verse?

A sodding gyp. What happened to "Go Fish"?

Dear readers I am fishing, please don't curse,

I'll finish my deep point, then grant your wish.

I'M SAYING Buffy 's education sucked

her into a prosaic frame of mind.

WITHOUT SOME POETRY, a hero's f*cked.

(a slang word used a lot, and not unkind).

Buf's baby talk's a sign she's literal.

An anti-poet . . . That's why she's so dull.

(4) IN LATER SEASONS Buffy's S.A.T.s

are very high. . . . I cringe, but that makes sense.

IN SCHOOL she's always guilty . . . tries to please

the teachers
(all those times she seems so dense).

NO POETRY FOR BUFFY . . . there's no "point."

There's slaying, then her homework, cram for test.

WHY WASTE YOUR TIME on books & verse disjoint

from what a teacher wants. AND THEN THERE'S REST.

With slaying, friends, and school work . . . sleep's required.

NO TIME FOR solitude. No leisured space

for contemplation . . . until she's retired.

NO TIME FOR better angels . . and true grace.

"GO FISH" was "filler," friend. Here's what I do.

I choose the path I want. Don't like? Then sue.
<smile>

[THE END]

REMINDER: Tea Time in L.A. (M-F) comes to a close
the day after final Buffy of the season 5/22

Final episode of Tea Time in L.A. (7-8 PM BRONZE TIME) is Wed. 5/22

REMINDER 2: A weekly version (still being designed) to be called

begins on June 2

NOTE: The insane idea of putting Buffy thoughts
in Shakespearean sonnet form . . . is based on the even more
insane idea that you might want to give it a try yourself.

For a "sonnetized" explanation of why this is not insane <g> . . . you might read
my previous Bronze threads WHY I POST IN SHAKESPEAREAN SONNETS:
PART 1: tid=48156 PART 2: tid=48152

THEN if that challenge seems like an interesting one to you, look for TEA TIME in L.A.
at 7:00 PM BRONZE TIME daily . . . which is truly strange. <g> But it just
might save the world. <ewg> In any case, you can brag about being able to
write better than fill-in-the-blank. <g>
